New Delhi, 11 September 2025: The country’s first dedicated aluminium extrusion exhibition, ALUMEX India 2025, opened today at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The four-day event was inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the presence of industry leaders and stakeholders.
Organised by the Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI), the exhibition has brought together 200+ exhibitors and expects 25,000 business visitors from across the aluminium value chain.
Industry Landscape and Challenges
India has an installed aluminium extrusion capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum, but actual domestic output is only 1.2 million tonnes, with the rest met through imports. Factors such as price disparities, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) concessions, and cheaper imports from China and ASEAN countries have hampered local production. The US tariffs have further impacted domestic manufacturers.
Om Birla’s Keynote Address
Speaking at the inauguration, Om Birla highlighted the growing importance of the sector:

“This event showcases the strength of the Indian aluminium extrusion industry,” he said.

He emphasised India’s innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and global leadership potential under the Make in India initiative.

Stressing aluminium’s role, he noted its applications across industries—from aircraft to automobiles—and its recyclability as a metal of the future.

He urged MSMEs to adopt new technologies, improve standards, and focus on quality.
ALEMAI’s Vision: Aluminium Bharat
Delivering the welcome address, Jitendra Chopra, President of ALEMAI, announced a new identity for the exhibition.

ALUMEX India will continue as a focused segment for the extrusion industry.

The broader event will be rebranded as Aluminium Bharat, covering the entire aluminium ecosystem, from rolled products and wire rods to auto castings.

The move reflects ALEMAI’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat and reducing import dependence.

Aniruddha Kulkarni, CSO of Hindalco Industries, called for import duty rationalisation and stronger quality standards to ensure fair competition. He highlighted three priorities: product quality, sustainability through circularity, and digitalisation.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta, emphasised aluminium’s economic impact:

The industry contributes nearly 2% to India’s GDP.

With per capita consumption at 3.5 kg compared to the global average of 17–18 kg, India’s demand is expected to rise six-fold by 2047.
